Heart Failure
Aug 20th 2008
Heart
failure is not a single disease but is a term applied to a group of heart
problems that generally present in a similar manner. The common underlying
problem is an inability of the heart to pump in a manner sufficient to meet the
needs of the individual. The most common symptom that reflects this is shortness
of breath. Most people think of heart failure as a “weak heart”. Although it is
true that many individuals with heart failure have weak hearts there are many
who have strong hearts but still have similar symptoms caused by other factors.
There are currently over 5 million Americans with heart failure.
